The Theoretical Model
The Theoretical Model that is the basis of our method is the Demands-Control Model of Karasek and Theorell (1990) and the subsequent extensions to the Demands-Resources Models (i.e., Salanova, Peiró & Schaufeli, 2001; Schaufeli & Bakker, 2002; Demerouti et al., 2001). The model is built on stress conceptualization as an interaction process between the needs of an occupational environment and the environmental and individual resources to cover them.
The RED questionnaire is the 'core' of psychosocial risk assessment. It is a flexible instrument that has been adapted to the needs and characteristics of each company or group of companies.
RED Versions
We have several RED versions:
There are two kinds of instruments depending on the field of application: basic and specific versions. The basic RED.es version assesses the main risks or psychosocial dangers that are established by the Law on Preventing Occupational Hazards, European rules and proved scientific results. Three instruments may be used for psychosocial risk assessments in specific groups: RED-Technostress (Technology users, English version available), RED-TT (Teleworkers, English version available) and RED-UNI (University students, English version available).
Depending on the answer format, there are two versions available: a paper-and-pencil version, and an electronic version which can be completed online.

Main objectives of the RED questionnaire |

The main aim of the RED questionnaire is the identification of:
A. Psychosocial risk factors, or stressors, at specific levels (i.e., company, work group, area, department)
B. Potential at-risk groups (i.e., older workers, temporary workers, low qualified workers, supervisors)
C. People likely to develop stress-related problems (i.e., techno-stress, burnout, workaholism, mobbing)

It is a practical, systematic, comprehensive, modular, flexible, scientific questionnaire, that is, well adapted to national laws:
1. Practical utility. It is a practical tool based on empirical research which has been adapted to national laws on the assessment and prevention of occupational hazards. 2. Systematic and comprehensive. The scales cover a wide range of stressors (psychosocial dangers) and consequences (individual, group and organizational damage).
3. Modular and flexible. The RED questionnaire matrix is ‘modular’ and is made up of 37 scales. 4. Scientific. The scales included in the questionnaire have been validated in previous studies (see list of publications) and are based on theoretical models of scientific impact in the field of Occupational Health Psychology. 5. Copyright. RED holds a copyright for the scales and instruments used. 6. Presentation. Results reports are presented in a clear and simple language which is easy for the non-scientific community to understand. 7. Electronic version. This questionnaire is available in an electronic version (via the Internet or Intranet). |
